Director of Coach and Player Development - Josh Slate

Josh was born and raised in Halifax and spent his childhood playing soccer for Halifax City Soccer Club. After finishing youth soccer he transitioned into coaching in order to give back to the Nova Scotia soccer community, which he says “had been so valuable to my personal development”.

Josh began his coaching career at Halifax Dunbrack Soccer Club and subsequently with our own district tier 1 club, Suburban FC. This allowed him to continue working with youth players where there is still so much for them to learn.

Josh's work ethic and passion for coaching soccer has given him the opportunity to work with a variety of age groups, skill levels, and positions; from youth in the mini program to U17 teams and goalkeepers. Amongst his coaching highlights, he lists multiple summer and winter provincial championships and competing at the Canadian Soccer Association Club National Championships in 2016. He also had the opportunity to learn from professional academy coaches at Bolton Wanderers Football Club in England and, of course, from our own alumni, Andrew McDonald, who Josh has been assisting within the Suburban set up.

“For over twenty years, soccer has been a significant part of my life. I am very excited to continue sharing my experience and love for the game with players and coaching staff at Scotia Soccer Club.”

This is an exciting and somewhat challenging time and Scotia Soccer Club's Board feels that Josh will be a valuable asset as he settles into the role and makes it his own. His enthusiasm and his youthful approach will be key to our continued success and to the recruitment and retention of players and coaches as we endeavor to stay competitive with other clubs and with other sports.
