FAQs
Q: I heard that the age groups are changing this winter (2016-17) and how does this affect my child?
A: Yes, SNS under the Canada Soccer Association will be restructuring the youth programs and released a brochure explaining the new structure.
Q: How can the schedule possibly be out out sooner in the fall program?
A: Gym allocations are not usually given out until late in September. We try our best to assign days to different groups even without knowing the exact gyms in order for parents to plan their family schedules. Changes are caused by unavailability of facilities and changes in the game times for players.
Q: How do we attract more kids to boost the programs? Some parents feel there is a myth that their child is not good enough for the Prospects/Pre-Prospects program.
A: Pre-Prospects Program is not just for an elite player at U8-U10 as it is equally suitable for players who want to play more soccer and desire additional training.

Q: I coached soccer for years and completed coaching levels several years ago. Therefore I have a good level of experience with coaching, with soccer and other sports too so am I required to take more coaching courses?
A: Coaches must have the current levels for the level of team they are coaching. CSA and SNS recommends coaches be up dated in all new course levels. The Active Start (U4/U6) , FUNdamentals (Boys U6/U9; Girls U6/U8, Learn to Train (Boys U9/U12; Girls U8/U11) and Soccer For Life (Boys U13 and Girls U12 and older) courses provide training only in developmental stage specific areas of coaching. You should also add Make Ethical Decisions Module (MED) to your course load.
Q: We aren't sure what Tier 2 means exactly. My child wants to play the basic recreational (or whatever level that is) not the competitive level.
A: In the fall of 2016 Soccer Nova Scotia changed the age groups and standardized the levels to coincide with CSA and other provinces. The three levels of play include, Mini, Community and Performance. The Mini and Community levels are U8-U10, U13-U21 A, U8-U17 B and C. The Performance levels include U13-U17 AAA, AA and U12 A. Scotia Soccer Club offer only the A, B and C levels, where A is the strongest level and C is the lowest level. We conduct placement selections for the U10-U15 A and B levels. We may also offer placement selections for the C levels, if registation numbers warrant. We offer teams for all levels, if sufficient registrations. If there are enough strong players to form an A team, players may be cut for a B team. If there are enough players to have two teams, we may have an A team and a B team or two B teams. Many leagues do not permit more than one A team for each age group in a club Players may also be cut and placed on a C team. Levels which require placement selections will be posted and a mandatory placement fee will be added to the registration. It is stressed that the players as a whole will be looked at and are accommodated on teams which best fit their level. A and B level teams have an opportunity to play for a spot at Provincials at the end of the summer season. In summary, recreational level is generally the C level, but in older age groups A and B levels may only be offered. Recreational players are encouraged to attend placement sessions at U13 and older.
